Obama Wants The GOP’s Help on Healthcare, Or So He Says.
President Obama wants to hold a health care summit with members from the GOP later this month, he wants to listen to what Republicans think we should do about health care. Well Mr. President, all I can say is your a year late and a trillion dollars short on that one. Obama and Congressional Democrats have claimed over and over again that Republicans have no ideas when it comes to health care, even though the GOP has a website devoted to what they would do to help fix the health care system in the United States at http://www.gop.gov/solutions/healthcare.
Apparently, the President is ready to reach across the aisle and work with the GOP on sensible solutions to the health care problem. I’ll believe when I see it. This is the same thing he said a year ago when he wanted to work with both parties to fix the system in the U.S. All we got was a partisan shellacking by the Democrats and the GOP left out in the cold.
I don’t know about you, but I’m tired of the President saying the same old thing over and over again, and doing something different, over and over again. I guess he thinks we all go to sleep at night and forget everything he says.
But maybe, just maybe, Obama has finally got the message that the American people will not stand for one party mob rule in this country. Maybe he actually believes everything that was written for him to say at the State of the Union, and wants to be bi-partisan now. But then again, this President and this Congress has always shown that their word can’t be trusted, and that the only thing they are interested in is pushing around their socialist agenda.
It will be interesting to see what happens at this summit between Obama and the GOP, if it happens at all. Will Obama actually listen to common sense from the Republicans or is he only paying lip service to disgruntled colleagues, like he has up to this point? Only time will tell, but I think I can see what is going to happen with this. Even if Obama decides he wants to work with Republicans, Nancy Pelosi sure does not. So, I think that even if Obama and the GOP can work something out, that Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and Democrats in Congress will shun what the GOP has to say and continue to work behind closed doors. I hope that does not happen but with Pelosi, well you can’t teach an old dog new tricks if you know what I mean.
Once again, the website for GOP Solutions to healthcare is http://www.gop.gov/solutions/healthcare
You Know The Great Ones Started Young… Or Something Like That
As a political blog that usually concerns itself with issues on a state or national scale, it is not very often that I choose to delve into county issues, especially a county so far from Florida, but tonight I believe that there is a great reason for me to make a risky move, one that may seem irrational to a great deal many people, but I was struck by this young guy when I was watching Huckabee this evening. I have decided that it is my honor to endorse Matthew J. Flynn II for St. Lawrence County Legislature, District 8. You may be wondering, well why would it be a risky or maybe even a somewhat foolish move for you to endorse a candidate for office so far away, you have done it before? Well, I have not told you the reason, the reason is, the kid is 18, a senior in high school.
Yeah, the man has not even graduated high school yet but he is looking for political office in his county legislature, and that is what I like about it. For those of you that know me, I plan on seeking political office in my county legislature when I get out of college, which makes me admire this kid even more. He wants lower taxes, and wants to help the people in his community, the same with me. He is also Republican, a double plus. After listening to the guy talk on Huckabee and visiting his website at http://voteflynn.us, I think this kid will be a valuable asset to St. Lawrence County New York. You know every once in a while it takes someone with ambition and drive to set the political landscape on fire.
So for anyone in St. Lawrence County, New York that may come across this blog in the near future, I urge you to go this guy’s website and donate or help out in any way you can, because the great ones started young… or something like that. Either way, vote for this guy. The link for his website is below as well.

The Unemployment Rate Is Down To 9.7%!! Not So Fast My Friend!
Well hey, the unemployment rate is down this month to 9.7%. That’s great right? To steal a line from Lee Corso, Not so fast my friend! This whole 9.7% thing is an illusion.
For those of you that do not know, the unemployment is not only composed of people in the United States that have lost their jobs. The unemployment rate consists of people who lost their jobs, but are ACTIVELY looking for a job. So for our teenage friends that may be reading this blog or for our friends that are sitting on the couch, watching Gilligan’s Island reruns all day with a bag of potato chips and a cold one, this does not include you! And that is where the illusion begins. The unemployment rate is not down to 9.7% because more people are finding more jobs, in fact the obvious is true. The unemployment rate is down to 9.7% because more and more people are just giving up on finding a job. That is what it has come too now in this recession.
Earlier I mentioned that the unemployment rate is not down because people were finding jobs, that the opposite is true, and indeed that is the case. The U.S lost 20,000 jobs in the month of January, and in 2009 we lost hundreds of thousands more jobs than were created.
And here is the biggest statistic that should worry you. The jobless rate, or the underemployed rate which is the actual term I believe, is at approximately 17%, its just under that.
So 9.7% is just an illusion, it is basically there to make us feel good. It is an actual statistic, don’t get me wrong, but that number is ridiculous. Do not let Obama or the Democrats tell you that we have turned the corner in this recession which is exactly what he tried to tell us today. As long as we keep losing more jobs than we create, and more people stop looking for work, and unemployment benefits keep getting extended further and further, this number, 9.7, doesnt mean anything.

Video: America Rising
This is a video that someone forwarded to me from youtube. It is a video that puts Democrats on notice in 2010! No idea who made it but it is there and you should see it. Here is the link and the video.
CRS Review: President Obama’s State of the Union Address
Last night, January 27th, was the first State of the Union address given by President Obama as is demanded by the Constitution. Odd once you consider the fact that Obama and these democrats havent had any regard for the Constitution since they took over.
Let me start off by saying most of what we heard in this State of the Union address was nothing new. He addressed the financial crises we are STILL in, the economy, Banks, stimulus, etc… The same old talk that did nothing but take precious time away from what we could of been doing. In regard to the financial crises we are in, President Obama said “The worst of the storm has passed.” It should be noted that in terms of well everything, we are still in the worst of it. A report was just released that said 2009 was the worst year in the history of selling homes, only 374,000 being sold. Nothing else is really going that great either.
He talked about the Stimulus package that was passed almost a year ago now that has saved jobs and in his words “averted disaster”. He claims that this stimulus package has saved millions of jobs, but I only believe part of that is true. While that teacher he quoted last night may still have her job, many millions more do not have their. The unemployment rate is over 10% now and that is the highest in a quarter century. In the state I live in, Florida, the unemployment rate is 11.8%. I know I keep hammering this home in posts I make on here, but facts are stubborn things. He did say last night though that jobs will be the number 1 priority in 2010, which is good, even though it maybe would of been a good thing if jobs would of been his number 1 priority in 2009.
I was surprised by President Obama and his “Get them before they get us” mentality that he showed last night. When he was talking about the clean energy and nuclear power plants and all that stuff. I believe he was acting like a 3 year old when he was ranting about how “he wants what they have and he wants it now!!” kind of stuff, in relations to India and China having innovative products and things. It is good that he would want America to be innovative but he didnt have to whine last night about it.
He also made mention of something called “The Lost Decade” which I guess is what he refers to last decade as. I have never heard this term used before, and I dont consider last decade to be a lost cause.
The biggest joke of the night was when he talked about Government transparency and accountability. He is acting like he has never been in Washington before, when he talked about how Washington needs to get in step and start doing what the citizens put them here to do. He talked about Congress and how everyone needs to stop being 5 year olds and put the partisan stuff aside. He talked like he was some kind of outsider and this past year has had nothing to do with him. I wonder if he realizes that he IS Washington now? He’s been there since 2006, and he has been the President for a year now. This whole Washington needs to be step it up deal shows that Obama is out of touch. I wonder if he honestly believes that Republicans are the only ones being partisan as he was alluding to last night. All the crap that Washington is spewing at us is because of Obama himself and the Democratic majorities in Congress. The back room deals, and the sneakiness of Reid and Pelosi and the shuting out of Republicans was done by them. Maybe Obama should practice what he preaches before telling everyone else to do so.
This freeze in government spending that Obama talked about starting in 2011 is something I dont believe will happen. Especially if Pelosi and him are butting heads on the National defense part of spending. Did you see Pelosi last night when Obama talked about continuing to spend on National defense? She let Joe Biden have it and it was one of the only times that she wasnt clapping incoherently. The democrats are seriously having communication problems these days, and it will interesting to see the sparks fly when the first spending bill of 2011 comes out.
Of course he still wants Cap & Trade, and healthcare reform but I dont see that happening either, so its not even something I care to talk about.
There was an element to last nights speech that downright made my blood boil. When Obama stood up there and publicly blasted the Supreme Court over their decision on campaign finance reform, with them sitting right in front of him, and members of Congress clapping crazily, that was the low point in the night for me. That to me made Obama look like a scumbag to the nation. I was happy that Justice Samuel Alito mouthed the words “thats not true” when Obama said it. How dare Obama sit there and criticize the highest judges in the land, people who have forgotten more about law than Obama or Congress will ever know? I guess its a liberal thing.
All in all the President’s first State of the Union address was mediocre at best. Still claiming that stimulus was a success when anyone with a brain can look around and see that it is not working, and blaming others for Washington’s ineptness is not Presidential like to me. I did enjoy Governor Bob McDonnell of Virginia who gave the GOP response. He’s points were right on.
Just A Little Political Thought…
First off, I want to say that yesterday I read the New York Times for the first time ever and plan on doing it again.
Anyways, I am sitting here a little bewildered at something I just saw or to be more precise, something I just read. You know I always knew that MSNBC thought more of themselves than they actually are, and I don’t actually mind that I mean everyone thinks that about themselves a little. However, I am baffled by the actions of MSNBC President Phil Griffin, who I believe is the most irrelevant President in the history of television networks. It all started I guess after Scott Brown won in Massachusetts and MSNBC’s Shakespeare wannabe Keith Olbermann made the remark that Scott Brown was an “irresponsible, homophobic, racist, reactionary, ex-nude model, teabagging supporter of violence against women and against politicians with whom he disagrees.”
Well, Joe Scarborough, you may not know him but he’s the one that hosts MSNBC’s morning program. He went on twitter and slammed Olbermann saying that kind of rhetoric must be discouraged because it cheapens debate, which I have to say is the smartest thing that Scarborough has ever said, and I have to say that I agree with that.
Well now we get to Mr. Irrelevant Phil Griffin who decided this was uncalled for, no not Olbermann’s slandering of Senator-elect Scott Brown but of Scarborough calling out Olbermann. He said that they do not publicly criticize our colleagues. That however is not the kicker. This guy has be an idiot or something because in the memo he starts out with ” MSNBC is THE place for viewers to get the best political analysis and opinion…” and he continues “All of this has brought us great success, culminating in last year’s victory over CNN.” If MSNBC was the place for viewers to get political insight, then more than 5 people would watch, they would have A program in the top 10 of the ratings, and they wouldnt have to brag about coming in next to last because they beat CNN. The fact of the matter is, FOX News blows MSNBC and CNN and everyone else for that matter out of the water. If MSNBC was the place for politics, then the re-run of the O’Reilly Factor wouldnt have higher ratings than any show on MSNBC.
The point is, MSNBC President Phil Griffin needs a dose of reality. The fact that Joe Scarborough had the courage to call out Keith Olbermann was a good thing. That’s what viewers want, they want people who can disagree with one another to debate the most important issues of the day. That’s why FOX News is the best in the business and why MSNBC is looking up from the bottom. Phil Griffin wants debate stiffled and that’s not what is needed. If he was really smart, he would allow this to continue, then maybe the ineptness of MSNBC would be corrected, and then maybe they would relevant again, unlike their President, whom I just learned the name of today.
FSU Marching Chiefs Doing Thriller
I can’t get enough of this. Everyone already knows that the Florida State University Marching Chiefs are second to absolutely no other band. But during the 2009 football season, during halftime of the Georgia Tech (which went til 1 in the morning!) The Marching Chiefs paid tribute to Michael Jackson by playing and doing thriller. Everyone loved it so much that they did an encore later in the season. Here is the video of it from that night, and start paying close attention around the 1:50 mark. Its great stuff.
